We Will Start Picking Up Roadside Beggars in FCT From Monday — Wike

The Federal Capital Territory Administration has warned roadside beggars, urging them to leave the streets or face arrest by enforcement agents.

This directive was announced by the FCT Minister, Nyesom Wike, during the flag-off ceremony for the construction of the access road to newly commissioned judges’ quarters in Katampe.

The minister expressed concern over the alarming number of individuals loitering on the roads, which he said poses a serious security threat to the city.

Wike set an October 27, 2024, deadline for the affected individuals to vacate the streets.

In his remarks, the minister also recalled revoking the certificate of occupancy (C of O) for several plots of land allocated to the German construction firm Julius Berger in Katampe District.

The minister was speaking at the official flag-off ceremony for the design and construction of 40 judges’ quarters in the nation’s capital.

The event was attended by key judicial figures, including the Chief Justice of Nigeria (CJN), Justice Kudirat Kekere-Ekun, and the President of the Court of Appeal, Justice Monica Dongban-Mensem, along with other dignitaries.
