In the wake of Liverpool’s surprising draw with newly promoted Luton Town, Nigerian popular cleric, Primate Elijah Ayodele is facing heavy criticism for an inaccurate prediction he made regarding the fixture.
Primate Elijah Ayodele, the leader of the INRI Evangelical Spiritual Church, is renowned for his “spirit-led” predictions but has often faced backlash for getting his predictions wrong.
In this case, his prediction about the outcome of the match between Liverpool and Luton did not materialise as he foresaw.
Regarding his previous football predictions, Primate Ayodele had predicted that Manchester City would triumph over Bournemouth, a prediction that turned out to be accurate, as Manchester City secured a 6-1 victory. He also predicted that Liverpool would defeat Luton.
However, Liverpool’s draw with Luton raised questions and sparked reactions. Many individuals found it peculiar that a religious leader would make football predictions, associating it with gambling, although Primate Elijah has claimed that his predictions are not intended for gambling purposes.

Nigerians took to social media to express their dissatisfaction with the fake prediction.
One sports fan remarked, “He predicted two easy games and fortunately for him, Liverpool drew. Fake prophets dem dem.”
Another user commented, “Funniest part of this was Nobody asked him. Nobody. But when you’re a scam, you have a way of setting yourself up. The most annoying part was when he was grabbing his cap as if he was adjusting the inspiration. Awon Ole, adojutini.
Another critic added, “These men of MEN would sha not stop disgracing themselves. This was how many of them rushed out during elections to yarn okotos only to be shamed yakata, exposing their ordinariness to the whole wide world. If you must predict, predict. Everyone predicts but don’t make it look like a prophecy because we know no God sent you a message; na you dey send yourself. Yeyenatu.”
The fourth respondent said, “The way gamblers will swear for this man today, ehn. Unfortunately, he will still come out tomorrow to give predictions and they will still believe him. Has any of his predictions ever come to fruition?”
The incident has left gamblers questioning the credibility of Primate Ayodele’s predictions.
