Ndume to Tinubu — Sack Ministers Bring Ezekwesili, Others to Boost Economic Summit

Senator Ali Ndume, representing Borno South in Nigeria’s National Assembly, has urged Bola Tinubu to deepen his recent cabinet reshuffle by removing additional underperforming ministers.

In a statement released on October 26, 2024, in Abuja, Ndume praised Tinubu’s recent ministerial changes but called for further steps to fully align with the administration’s ‘Renewed Hope’ agenda.

“Tinubu has taken a commendable step by restructuring his cabinet, but some ministers are still not up to the task,” Ndume remarked.

Ndume commended Tinubu’s decision to replace five ministers, reassign ten others, and launch the Ministry of Regional Development to replace the Ministry of Niger Delta Affairs, seeing these changes as key initial steps toward more efficient governance.

He further advised that Tinubu convene a national economic summit to address Nigeria’s economic issues with innovative solutions.

Ndume suggested including a lineup of esteemed Nigerian economists and former ministers, such as Ngozi Okonjo-Iweala, Oby Ezekwesili, Akinwumi Adesina, Mansur Muktar, Arunma Oteh, and economist Tope Fasua, to lead the discussions.

“This national economic summit should be purely led by these eminent Nigerians, and they will come up with recommendations instead of the IMF and World Bank’s prescriptions that are harsh and hard on the ordinary citizens,” he stated, emphasising the importance of home-grown solutions to avoid external economic pressures.

Ndume also applauded Tinubu’s efforts to cut down governance costs and encouraged other branches of government to adopt similar measures.

He expressed confidence that insights from a locally-led summit would offer Nigeria a much-needed strategic direction, particularly in light of the nation’s growing economic challenges.

The Senator concluded by expressing his belief in President Tinubu’s openness to implementing practical recommendations from Nigerian experts to foster lasting economic progress.
