As Usual, Terrorists Kidnap 16 in Kebbi

Suspected terrorists have attacked Bena village and nearby areas in the Danko/Wasagu Local Government Area of Kebbi State, abducting at least 16 people.

Lawali Umar, Secretary of the Wasagu Security Committee, confirmed that bandits ambushed farmers working on their guinea corn fields, taking them hostage.

In a separate incident, bandits also targeted the Tudun Wada area, where six individuals were abducted.

Army personnel responded to this attack, engaging the bandits in a firefight, successfully repelling them and rescuing the six captives.

While some of the original 16 hostages have managed to escape, around nine remain in captivity as the kidnappers demand an undisclosed ransom.

Umar has urged the Kebbi State Government to enhance security in critical areas, particularly Yar Maitaba, Mai Rai Rai, and Tungar Sabo, which he described as frequent strongholds for the bandits.

“We commend the state government’s efforts against banditry, but with the guinea corn harvest season upon us, our farmers need better security,” he appealed.

At the time of filing this report, Nafiu Abubakar, the spokesperson for the Kebbi State Police Command, has not yet commented on the incident.
