Equatorial Guinea Official Apprehended Over 400 Sextapes with VIPs’ Wives, Sisters

Baltasar Engonga, the former Director General of Equatorial Guinea’s National Financial Investigation Agency, has been arrested for allegedly recording over 400 sex tapes involving the wives of prominent figures in the country.

The scandal unfolded during a fraud investigation targeting the 54-year-old economist, leading to a surprise search of his home and office by ANIF officials.

During the raid, numerous CDs were found, revealing his sexual encounters with various married women.

Among those featured in the videos are high-profile individuals, including Engonga’s brother’s wife, his cousin, the President’s sister, the wife of the Director General of Police, and approximately 20 ministers’ wives.

The footage, reportedly recorded with the women’s consent, was discovered in Engonga’s personal office and has since been leaked online, sparking widespread media outrage.

Local media outlet Ahora EG reported that the scandal, which surfaced in October, is unprecedented in Equatorial Guinea’s history.

Engonga, widely known as “Bello,” is said to have engaged in sexual relations with numerous women, some married, documenting these encounters in what has become a major national controversy.

The report read, “The most striking thing is that some scenes took place in his work office, including moments in which he is seen sleeping with a woman next to the National Flag. Based on this sexual scandal, the Executive has stated that the measure is a direct response to the acts that have affected the image of the country.

“With these new measures, the Government hopes to establish a clear precedent on the expected conduct of public officials in order to create a more respectful work environment in the public and private administration of Equatorial Guinea. For days now, erotic videos have been circulating on social media featuring Baltasar EBANG ENGONGA, better known as “Bello”, who is currently the Director General of the National Financial Investigation Agency (ANIF) and is currently imprisoned for alleged corruption issues.

“Baltasar EBANG ENGONGA is said to have filmed these scenes with the consent of the women themselves, which exonerates him from a possible crime of violation of integrity. In the videos, he is seen having unprotected sex with several women, including those married to powerful and well-known people in the country, but also with the most “diva and influential” single women in Equatorial Guinea. Some scenes take place in hotel rooms, houses, even in the protagonist’s office at the Ministry of Finance,” it added.

Addressing the issue of the viral sextapes, the country’s Attorney General, Nzang Nguema, clarified that while the images suggest the women involved were not coerced, the law does not criminalize consensual sexual relations unless there is evidence of coercion or violence. He underscored the critical need for victims of sexual abuse or assault to report such incidents.

Nguema also highlighted that the risks extend beyond the women involved, affecting their partners and the broader community. He warned of the heightened danger of spreading contagious diseases through these interactions, making the situation even more serious.

He stressed the importance of victims coming forward in cases of rape or assault and called for a supportive environment to encourage such reports.

In response to the scandal, Equatorial Guinea announced on Monday the immediate suspension of all officials involved in sexual activities within ministry offices. This action is part of the government’s “zero tolerance” policy against behavior that undermines public service integrity. Vice President Nguema Mangue stated that such actions are a clear breach of the Code of Conduct and the Public Ethics Law.

In a statement on X, he emphasized that “ethics and respect are fundamental in our Administration,” warning that irresponsible behavior compromising public trust will not be tolerated.
