Peter Obi, has called on the people of Ondo State to reject transactional politics, which he says has fostered poor leadership and misgovernance across the country.
Obi’s appeal comes as the state prepares for its upcoming governorship election.
He urged voters to prioritize integrity and competence over immediate personal gain, emphasizing that these choices have led to leaders who are ineffective in addressing the state’s needs.
Obi, in a recent statement, reaffirmed his commitment to Nigeria’s democracy despite the numerous challenges that have plagued the electoral system, including widespread criticism of recent elections. “Notwithstanding the myriads of challenges plaguing our electoral system and the unsettling criticisms shadowing recent elections at all levels, I remain steadfast in my commitment to democracy in Nigeria,” Obi declared.
His statement underscored his belief that Nigerian democracy could be strengthened through conscious efforts to elect capable and fair-minded leaders.
This dedication to democratic ideals, Obi explained, is what inspired him to travel to Ondo State to campaign for the Labour Party’s governorship candidate, Hon. Sola Ebiseni.

Obi expressed confidence in Ebiseni’s leadership qualities, citing his experience as the Afenifere Secretary and his dedication to values of fairness, equity, and justice.
Obi described Ebiseni as someone who embodies the competence needed to govern Ondo effectively and drive positive change in the state.
Obi encouraged the people of Ondo to look beyond short-term gains and focus on long-term progress. “Despite the current challenges, I remain hopeful that committed, capable leadership can and will turn things around,” he stated.
