Former Senator Shehu Sani has said that the Central Bank of Nigeria should open a special Spiritual Department to save the nation’s currency.
Sani said this in a satirical response to recent remarks by the General Overseer of the Redeemed Christian Church of God, Pastor Enoch Adeboye.
Speaking at the Special Holy Ghost Congress in Abuja, Adeboye stated that if not for prayers, the naira would have depreciated to 10,000 per dollar, highlighting the role of divine intervention in stabilizing the exchange rate.
Mimicking the sentiment, Shehu Sani tweeted, “Since prayer can save national currency from falling, Central Bank should open special Spiritual department.”
Sani’s tweet, blending humor with a serious issue, quickly gained attention on social media.
While Adeboye’s statement emphasized the importance of prayer in the nation’s economic resilience, Sani’s suggestion of a spiritual department in the Central Bank poked fun at the reliance on prayer to address economic challenges, while indirectly highlighting the struggles of the naira.

Many Twitter users reacted to Sani’s response, a netizen who tweeted as @Reward-aya wrote, “Spiritual looters Will suddenly appear.”
Another user, @TheNorth tweeted, “To enact legislation creating the Ministry of Economy Prayer, we must get you back to the Senate as soon as possible.”
Reacting to Sani’s statement, a user @unclesarky remarked, “They have that, already… “The monetary policies department. It is where policies are made without correlating positives”
