The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has assured residents of Ondo State of its commitment to conducting a credible and seamless governorship election today, November 16.
Speaking on Channels Television’s Politics Today on Friday, Professor Kunle Ajayi, INEC’s National Commissioner overseeing Ondo, Ogun, and Osun States, expressed the Commission’s readiness for the poll and promised not to disappoint voters.
“We have done our work, we are proud of what we have done and we will not disappoint the people of Ondo State,” Ajayi stated from Akure, the state capital.
Ajayi highlighted that INEC had distributed sensitive election materials to all 18 local government areas in the state on Thursday. The distribution, which took place at the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) office in Alagbaka, Akure, was conducted in the presence of party agents, security personnel, and other stakeholders.
He added, “I want to assure you that everything will go well. As of 3 pm, all the Registered Areas (RAs) have all their sensitive materials. The next thing is to move to the Polling Unit (PU). I toured some of the RAs this afternoon.”
Meanwhile, in a separate development, terrorists have reportedly taken control of the Nagwamase Military Cantonment in Kontagora, Niger State.
The cantonment, Nigeria’s largest military training camp, has reportedly fallen into the hands of armed groups.
