The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) has adhered to a court order by presenting the former Governor of the Central Bank, Godwin Emefiele, in court for the hearing of his bail application.
Emefiele, who had been in custody for over 149 days, was ordered by Justice Olukayode Adeniyi of the Federal Capital Territory High Court to be released unconditionally or brought to court to address his bail application.
Dressed in a yellow kaftan and a cap, accompanied by EFCC operatives, the former CBN Governor arrived at the courtroom at approximately 12:30 p.m.
Justice Adeniyi reaffirmed his order on Monday, reiterating that Emefiele should be brought to court on November 8 for the purpose of considering his bail.

In an ex-parte motion filed before the court, Emefiele requested an order to compel the EFCC to release him from custody pending the determination of his fundamental rights enforcement suit.
Alternatively, he sought bail and a N5 million award against the respondents for violating his fundamental rights.
The respondents in the suit (FCT/HC/CV/040/2023) include the Federal Republic of Nigeria, the Attorney-General of the Federation, the Chairman of the EFCC, and the anti-graft agency itself.
Emefiele’s ordeal began on June 9, when Bola Tinubu suspended him from his role as the head of the Central Bank.
He was subsequently arrested at his Lagos residence by Department of State Services (DSS) operatives.
Since then, Emefiele has faced legal charges, including illegal possession of a firearm and ammunition, before the Federal High Court in Lagos, as well as a 20-count corruption charge filed by the Federal Government against him and two others before an Abuja High Court sitting at Maitama.
