A momentous verdict has been delivered in the widely publicised murder case involving Oluwatoyin Salau, a 19-year-old Black Lives Matter activist. Aaron Glee, the man accused of the heinous crime, was handed a life sentence by the court on Friday, September 22.
Oluwatoyin Salau, a 19-year-old Black Lives Matter activist, and Victoria Sims, a 75-year-old AARP volunteer, were found dead in Glee’s home in June 2020. The case drew national attention due to Salau’s activism and the brutal nature of the crimes.
The trial was marked by its emotional intensity and the heinous details of the crime. Prosecutors presented evidence that Glee had kidnapped both women, sexually assaulted Salau, and subsequently murdered them.
Glee was sentenced to two consecutive life sentences for two counts of first-degree murder. In addition to this, he received a life sentence for one count of kidnapping, 15 years for one count of sexual battery, and an additional five years for felony battery.
The sentence comes nearly three years after the horrific crime shook the nation. The case has been a painful reminder of the violence faced by women and activists in our society.
