In a move towards modernization, Abia State, under the leadership of Governor Alex Otti, is set to digitize its civil service by March 2024.
Commissioner for Science and Technology, Chima Oriaku, emphasized the urgency during a recent training session conducted by Xerox Nigeria Limited.
Oriaku highlighted the drawbacks of maintaining paper and analogue files, citing vulnerability to loss and weather-induced destruction. He expressed the government’s commitment to automating the entire workflow, stating, “We should have a centralized data management system so that at any time, at the punch of a button, by a government official, you will access data that you can work with.”
Partnering with Xerox Nigeria Limited, the initiative aims to enhance efficiency and output among state workers. Femi Abidoye, General Manager (Marketing) at Xerox Nigeria Limited, noted the governor’s vision for quality service delivery, saying, “The objective is to make Abia state workers work smarter and to deliver on state objectives.”
