Ogun Governor Abiodun to Purchase N2.4 Billion Toyota SUVs for Lawmakers, Allocates N19 Billion for Office ‘Contingencies’

Ogun State Governor Dapo Abiodun is set to spend N2.4 billion on purchasing 25 Toyota sports utility vehicles for members of the state House of Assembly, despite the nationwide economic downturn.

This expenditure is detailed in the state’s 2024 approved budget, as reported by SaharaReporters.

On December 30, 2023, Governor Abiodun signed the 2024 Appropriation Bill, amounting to N703 billion. Named the “Budget of Sustained Growth and Development,” the budget includes N415.66 billion for capital expenditure and N287.37 billion for recurrent expenditure.

The budget breakdown reveals that N2,177,700,000.00 was allocated for the procurement of “25 Toyota Prado VX, Auto, Leather Seat, High Grade” vehicles for the state House of Assembly.

Additionally, N161,772,000.00 was earmarked for the procurement of one Toyota LC3003.5L, twin turbo for the House Speaker.

Another N143,106,000.00 was designated for the purchase of one Toyota LC300GX, 4.0L for the state assembly.

Furthermore, the “Office of the Governor” has a total allocation of N18,971,887,528.84 for contingencies to address unforeseen circumstances.

Recall that Governor Dapo Abiodun sparked controversy on X (formerly Twitter) as Netizens criticized him for the poor road conditions in several Ogun State communities.

They shared photos of the deteriorating roads and accused Abiodun of neglecting to ensure adequate road maintenance across the state.
