Julius Abure, the chairman of the Labour Party, has been arrested by the police following allegations of fraud and misappropriation of party funds.

Video footage circulating on the internet shows Mr. Abure being apprehended by armed police officers on Wednesday afternoon.

The reasons behind his arrest remain unclear at this time. However, his leadership has been marred by controversies surrounding the mismanagement of party funds.

The arrest follows accusations made by Oluchi Opara, the national treasurer of the LP, who claimed that Mr. Abure had misappropriated N3.5 billion in party funds.

According to Ms. Opara, these funds were generated through the sale of forms during the lead-up to the 2023 presidential election.

In response to the allegations, the opposition party suspended Ms. Opara for six months on the preceding Wednesday.

The situation underscores the internal strife within the Labour Party and raises questions about the handling of party finances under he’s leadership.
