Renowned broadcast journalist, Oseni Rufai, has voiced grave concerns over the economic downturn and societal gullibility plaguing Nigeria in recent years.
Taking to his X handle, Rufai highlighted the stark reversal of achievements post-military era, particularly since the turn of the century, attributing the nation’s struggles to widespread disorder and a lack of progress.
Oseni emphasized that Nigeria, once regarded as Africa’s shining star, is now at risk of becoming a mere paperweight in the global arena due to its economic woes.
Oseni lamented the country’s descent into abject disorder, pointing to a series of setbacks that have hindered growth and development.
All the achievements of the postmilitary era that ended in 99 have been reversed in the last 8 years,” Oseni stated.
“Nigeria’s growth is heavily truncated. Today, we wallow in abject disorder. In all, Africa’s star Nigeria is fast becoming paperweight.”
Drawing attention to societal attitudes, Rufai expressed dismay at the level of gullibility among Nigerians, citing a metaphor to illustrate his point.
“The gullibility of some Nigerians has made it easy for this economic slide. Nigerians are so gullible that if you place a guillotine on their neck, they will call it dinner napkin,” he said.
Recall that Parallel Facts reported that the Senate and House of Representatives had previously passed legislation to swap the national anthem from “Arise, O Compatriots” to “Nigeria, We Hail Thee” at separate sittings.
However, Senate President Godswill Akpabio disclosed during a joint session of the National Assembly commemorating the Silver Jubilee of Nigeria’s 4th Republic that Tinubu has signed replacing the new anthem with the old one.
The old anthem, “Nigeria, We Hail Thee”, composed when Nigeria gained independence on October 1, 1960, has replaced the “Arise, O Compatriots” anthem.
