John Dumelo, a popular actor-turned-politician, has emerged victorious in the Ayawaso West constituency election in Ghana, representing the National Democratic Congress (NDC).
Dumelo triumphed over his opponent from the New Patriotic Party (NPP) in a tightly contested race.
This victory marks Dumelo’s second attempt at the seat, having narrowly lost in 2020 to Mrs. Lydia Alhassan of the NPP.
In the current election, he secured 47,560 votes, defeating the incumbent Alhassan, who garnered 39,214 votes.
Dumelo’s campaign resonated strongly with the youth, emphasizing social change, job creation, and empowerment for both women and young people.
His promises included improving local infrastructure, enhancing education, and creating opportunities for the constituency’s youth.

Following the announcement of his victory, Dumelo expressed gratitude and determination, stating, “This victory is not just for me, but for the people of Ayawaso West. I am committed to ensuring that we build a stronger, more prosperous community together.”
Beyond politics, Dumelo is a celebrated actor, renowned for his roles in Nollywood and Ghollywood.
His filmography includes popular titles such as 4Play, 40 Looks Good on You, A Northern Affair, Adams Apples, A Private Storm, A Night with Her, After the Wedding, Black Men Rock, Blackmoney, and Beautiful Ruins.
