Nollywood actor Olaiya Igwe has issued a public apology to Nigerians following his fervent campaign for Bola Tinubu, amidst growing dissatisfaction with the current administration. This apology comes in the wake of his controversial act of stripping naked on a beach in December 2022 to pray for Tinubu’s success in the 2023 presidential election.
In a video statement released on social media, Olaiya expressed regret for his previous support of Tinubu, citing concerns over the dire state of the nation. He directly addressed Tinubu, urging him to fulfil his promises to the Nigerian people and to prioritize competent governance over political alliances.
“Baba Tinubu, Nigerians’ song these days is ‘hunger, hunger, hunger.’ This your government is looking disgraceful,” Igwe lamented. “You said it’s Yoruba’s turn, don’t bring ridicule to the tribe. Insecurity everywhere and nothing is being done.”

The actor’s apology marks a stark departure from his previous fervour for Tinubu, whom he credited with significant personal assistance. However, Olaiya revealed that his actions were motivated by what he perceived as a divine revelation.
“Bola Tinubu has done a lot in my life,”Olaiya explained. “I have a gift of revelation from Almighty God. At times, I see what God has for me before it happens.”
Olaiya’s public reversal signifies a notable shift as Nigerians grapple with ongoing challenges and expectations for accountable leadership.
