Adamawa State Residents Reject Rice Palliative Branded With Tinubu’s Picture, Cite Spoilage, Substandard Quality

Some residents of Adamawa State in Nigeria have voiced dissatisfaction with the rice distributed by Chief Bola Ahmed Tinubu as part of efforts to alleviate hardship.

Accusing Tinubu of contributing to the country’s challenges through the removal of subsidy on Premium Motor Spirit (PMS), commonly known as petrol, protesters claimed that the distributed rice was either spoiled or of substandard quality.

The discontent surfaced during a distribution event led by the Chairman of the Christian Association of Nigeria (CAN), Bishop Stephen Dami Mamza.

The Catholic Bishop of Yola Diocese revealed that 500kg bags of rice, bearing Tinubu’s pictures, were sent from his government for distribution to indigent CAN members. Bishop Mamza expressed gratitude to Tinubu for remembering the less privileged in the rice distribution.

However, some beneficiaries raised concerns about the quality of the rice, describing it as a mixture of black and brown grains.

“For God’s sake, they’re giving us this spoiled rice just because we’re poor people, right? No problem, there’s God,” one of the beneficiaries lamented.

Expressing frustration, another recipient asked, “You mean these people are callous enough to serve us this rice that looks more like animal feed?”

Another resident, Johnson Abana expressing suspicion, stated, “I don’t think Tinubu has seen this rice. I can only suspect that someone within the corridor of power may have short-changed both the President and the people.”

“This is ungodly, wicked and evil! Yes, it is evil to mock people with bad food just because they’re poor.”
