The African Democratic Congress (ADC) has called on the Bola Tinubu-led government to urgently clarify the contents and implications of the recently signed $5.1 billion US‑Nigeria Health Cooperation Memorandum of Understanding (MoU).
The call was made in a post on X by Bolaji Abdullahi, the party’s national spokesperson, highlighting what the ADC described as “conflicting public descriptions” of the agreement from both the Nigerian and US governments.
Abdullahi reaffirmed the party’s support for foreign assistance and bilateral cooperation aimed at strengthening Nigeria’s healthcare system.

However, he emphasised that such partnerships must respect Nigeria’s diversity and adhere to constitutional provisions prohibiting discrimination on the basis of religion or ethnicity.

The party warned that any lack of transparency could undermine public confidence in the agreement.
The MoU, reportedly worth $5.1 billion, is designed to bolster Nigeria’s healthcare infrastructure, improve service delivery, and enhance capacity across the sector.
While the federal government has described the pact as a major step toward improving healthcare outcomes, the ADC argued that Nigerians deserve clear, detailed information on how the funds and programs will be implemented and monitored.
ADC’s demand reflects growing calls from civil society and political groups for accountability and transparency in international agreements affecting public welfare.
The party stressed that without proper clarity, citizens may question whether such deals truly serve national interests or primarily benefit political elites.
