‘Government of Diplomatic Failure’ — ADC Knocks Tinubu Over $9m US Lobbying Deal

The African Democratic Congress (ADC) has condemned the Bola Ahmed Tinubu administration over its reported $9 million lobbying contract in the United States.

The party described the move as a wasteful attempt to launder Nigeria’s battered image abroad instead of addressing worsening security and economic challenges at home.

In a statement reacting to recent disclosures on the deal, the opposition party said no African government has ever committed such a huge sum to a short-term public relations exercise.

The ADC argued that spending $9 million on image management at a time when millions of Nigerians cannot afford food, fuel, or basic healthcare reflects misplaced priorities and moral blindness on the part of the federal government.

The party further described the decision as an admission of diplomatic failure, noting that the Tinubu administration has left several key ambassadorial positions vacant while turning to foreign lobbyists to project Nigeria’s image.

According to the ADC, this approach weakens institutional credibility and reduces Nigeria’s foreign policy to transactional propaganda.

ADC further urged the government to redirect public resources toward tackling insecurity, economic hardship, and rebuilding Nigeria’s diplomatic institutions.

They insisted that no amount of image management abroad can substitute for responsive governance and meaningful reforms at home.
