The African Democratic Congress (ADC) has criticised the Tinubu-led Federal Government over its continued silence following the viral clash between Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike, and Ast Lt. A.M. Yerima, a naval officer attached to the FCT Command.
In a statement released on X (formerly Twitter), the party’s National Spokesperson, Bolaji Abdullahi, said the government’s refusal to comment on the incident more than 48 hours after it went public suggests that the administration is either reluctant to offend Wike or in full support of his conduct.

“With this silence, we can only conclude that the government is either reluctant to offend Minister Wike, or in support of his behaviour in the trending viral video,” Abdullahi wrote.
He described the altercation as a national embarrassment, noting that the confrontation should have prompted an immediate and official response from the presidency.
“Ordinarily, the sorry spectacle should embarrass the government into calling this Minister to order. However, it appears that, to this government, politics is more important than anything else,” he added.
The ADC spokesperson questioned why the minister would personally involve himself in a land enforcement issue, arguing that such matters should be handled through established administrative channels.
Abdullahi said the minister’s “impunity and overreach” highlight a deeper leadership crisis within the current administration, where political loyalty seems to trump discipline and institutional integrity.
“Why should it require the physical involvement of the Minister of the FCT to enforce a land matter? Are there no systems in place to do this? Why would a federal minister think it is okay to abuse and harass a military officer on duty, just so he could have his way?” he asked.
The ADC called on Bola Tinubu to address what it described as a disturbing culture of impunity among government officials, insisting that the government’s silence only emboldens misconduct and erodes public confidence in leadership.
