Pastor Detained Abroad for Addressing Congregation as ‘Ladies and Gentlemen’—Adeboye

Pastor Enoch Adeboye, General Overseer of the Redeemed Christian Church of God (RCCG), has confirmed the arrest and detention of one of the church’s pastors abroad for using the phrase “Ladies and gentlemen” during a program.

The greeting was deemed discriminatory in the country’s culture for failing to acknowledge all recognized gender identities.

Adeboye shared his concerns about the incident during the RCCG monthly thanksgiving service at the Throne of Grace parish in Lagos on Sunday. In his sermon titled My Father’s House, which was broadcast across all RCCG parishes, he emphasized the troubling nature of the pastor’s arrest, describing it as a sign of worsening global morality and a wake-up call.

While Adeboye did not reveal the pastor’s identity or the country involved, he explained that the arrest followed a complaint of discrimination. Some attendees reportedly questioned, “What about those who are neither ladies nor gentlemen?”

The cleric also recounted another unsettling incident where a woman referred to her dog as her husband. When asked about her spouse, the woman claimed she had taken him to the vet and added that he “doesn’t talk,” explaining that her dog was her “husband.”

Adeboye expressed alarm over these developments, interpreting them as indications of declining moral values worldwide and warning that “the end is nearer than you think.”

He said, “Those of you already in Christ, take this matter seriously. Do not let anyone weaken your stance. God is holy.
“For those still playing church, singing, clapping, and enjoying things without genuine commitment, remember, Jesus is coming back.

“The devil wants to harvest you, but you must not give him the opportunity. I want to see you in my Father’s house.”

The cleric, widely recognized for his outspoken views on both national and church matters, also criticized men who wear braided hair and women who use false eyelashes and heavy makeup.

During the church’s 72nd annual convention in August, Adeboye voiced his disapproval of such fashion trends among church workers. He firmly stated that these styles would no longer be permitted on RCCG altars.

The convention, themed “Heaven,” was held from August 5 to 11, 2024, at Redemption City in Mowe, Ogun State.
