Nigeria’s defender William Troost-Ekong has urged Nigerians to continue backing the Super Eagles as they face Ivory Coast in a crucial AFCON match on Thursday.
The Super Eagles drew 1-1 with Equatorial Guinea in their opening game and need a win to boost their chances of advancing to the knockout stages.
“We are appealing to Nigerians worldwide to keep supporting and believing in the team. Our objective is to first reach the knockout rounds and then we push strongly from there,” Troost-Ekong said.
The Super Eagles have a potent attack that scored 22 goals in the qualifiers, more than any other team. They will hope to find their scoring touch against the hosts, who are also two-time champions.
“We expect a tough game because the Ivorians are the hosts and top of our group. But we also have our aspirations, and we believe in ourselves,” Kenneth Omeruo, another defender, said.
The match will take place at the Alassane Ouattara stadium in Ebimpe on Thursday evening.
