AFCON 2023: Ghana Faces Early Exit After Two Late Goals from Mozambique

Ghana’s hopes of progressing in the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations have been dealt a severe blow as they all but crashed out at the group stage.

Despite initially leading 2-0 with penalties from Jordan Ayew, late goals from Mozambique in stoppage time likely sent Ghana home for the second consecutive tournament, reminiscent of their elimination by minnows Comoros two years ago.

With only two points in this year’s competition, Ghana is left with a disappointing outcome. The team must now await the conclusion of the group stage, hoping that subsequent third-placed teams do not surpass their points and goals tally, in the hope of securing a chance to advance to the next round as one of the three best losers.

In the other Group B match, Cape Verde and Egypt played to a 2-2 draw, with both teams securing qualification. Cape Verde claimed the top spot in the group with 7 points.
