Former governor of Anambra State and presidential candidate of Labour Party (LP) in the 2023 elections, Peter Obi, has congratulated the Super Eagles of Nigeria for qualifying for the knockout stage of the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) in Ivory Coast.
In a tweet posted on Saturday, Obi praised the team for their efforts and encouraged them to double their efforts as they face Cameroon, their friendly neighbour and rival, in the round of 16 later today.
Obi also wished the Super Eagles and Nigeria a resounding victory, saying that in spite of present odds and difficulties, Nigeria remains a nation of winners.
“I encourage them to double their efforts, while wishing them, and by extension our dear nation, Nigeria, a resounding victory. In spite of present odds and difficulties, we remain a nation of winners,” he said.
“Our football players carry the banner of our youth as ambassadors of our nation. I share and will always support their hope and the promise of the great nation we deserve and are working towards. It is POssible,” he added.

Obi’s tweet has received positive reactions from many Nigerians who also expressed their support and optimism for the Super Eagles.
The Super Eagles finished second in Group A behind Equatorial Guinea,while Cameroon in Group C also clinched the second spot behind defending champions Senegal.
The match between Nigeria and Cameroon is scheduled to kick off today by 9:00pm Nigerian time at the Stade Olympique Alassane Ouattara in Abidjan.
