Former Anambra State Governor and Presidential candidate of the Labour Party (LP) in the 2023 elections, Peter Obi, has congratulated the Super Eagles for cruising into the semi-final of the Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) in Abidjan, Ivory Coast, on Friday.

Obi was among the jubilant Nigerian fans who witnessed the Super Eagles’ 1-0 victory over Angola in the quarter-finals of the competition.

Obi, who flew to Abidjan to support the national team, expressed his delight and pride in the performance of the Super Eagles, who scored a goal in the first half through Ademola Lookman.

In a tweet posted after the match, Obi congratulated the team for their “electrifying performance” and praised their “patriotism and professionalism”.

“It was truly a delightful and uplifting experience for me today, as I joined other Nigerians to watch Nigeria’s National Team, the Super Eagles, live in Abidjan, Ivory Coast Capital, as they cruised to the semi-final of the ongoing AFCON tournament.

“As always, our dear team, with the strength of an eagle, flew us into the semi-finals, victoriously with a delightful show of patriotism and professionalism. I heartily congratulate our national team, the Super Eagles, for their electrifying performance,” he stated.

Obi, who is known for his simplicity and humility, shunned the VIP section of the stadium and opted to sit among the ordinary Nigerian supporters, who welcomed him with cheers and chants. He also mingled with the fans after the match and took pictures with some of them.

Obi said that the Super Eagles’ victory was a reflection of the Nigerian spirit of resilience and determination, and urged the team to keep up the momentum in the semi-finals, where they will face either Cape Verdel or South Africa.

“We remain a nation of winners, that no matter how dark the night has been in our land, we will triumph over all our challenges into the New Nigeria of our dreams,” he tweeted.
