AFCON: Senegal Coach Aliou Cisse Laments Unpaid Salary

Senegal coach Aliou Cisse has revealed that he has not received his salary for the last six months while leading the national team in the Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON).

Cisse, who guided Senegal to their first AFCON title in 2022, said he was frustrated by the situation and urged the Senegalese Football Federation (FSF) to resolve the issue.

“Have we been able to resolve this issue with the FSF? A hungry coach sits in front of you, who heads the Senegal national team,” Cisse was quoted as saying by RMC Sport.

According to reports, Cisse is owed €180,000 (Ksh31,045,341) after failing to receive his €30,000 (Ksh5,174,223) monthly salary since July 2023.

This is not the first time that the FSF has been unable to pay Cisse, who took over the Senegal national team in 2015.

In 2018, he agreed to a 50% pay cut to help the federation cope with financial difficulties.

Cisse’s contract with the FSF expires in June 2024, and he has been linked with several clubs in Europe, including Marseille and Bordeaux.
