AFCON 2025 : Naija Spirit Can’t Be Broken—Troost-Ekong Hails Super Eagles

The captain of Nigeria’s Super Eagles, William Troost-Ekong, has expressed his pride in the current team, stating that the “Naija spirit can’t be broken.”

The former Watford defender made this remark after the Super Eagles returned to Nigeria following their difficult experience in Libya.

Troost-Ekong and his teammates were stranded for over 15 hours at Al Abaq Airport in Libya after arriving in the North African country on Sunday.

The Super Eagles were set to play a 2025 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) qualifying match against the Mediterranean Knights on Tuesday night.

Due to their ordeal, Austin Eguavoen’s team decided to boycott the game.

“BACK HOME SAFE & SOUND. Proud of this team, NAIJA SPIRIT can’t be broken,” Troost-Ekong tweeted.

“Throw at us what you want, it’s in our blood to overcome. I’ve seen a lot in my 10 years with this group, but nothing like this, an experience that has brought us even closer together.”
