Again, Court Denies Nnamdi Kanu’s Request for Bail

The Federal High Court in Abuja dismissed Nnamdi Kanu’s recent bail application on Tuesday, rejecting his plea to be released pending the determination of treasonable felony charges leveled against him by the Federal Government.

Justice Binta Nyako instead ordered an expedited hearing of the FG’s seven-count charge against Kanu.

In his February 5 application, filed through his legal team led by Mr. Alloy Ejimakor, he sought bail on compassionate grounds due to his declining health. Ejimakor argued that he’s serious health condition, confirmed by a government hospital, included hypertension and acute heart disease.

Ejimakor emphasized that Kanu’s continued detention by the Department of State Services (DSS) endangered his life and impeded his ability to prepare his defense.

Regarding he’s past bail violation, Ejimakor argued that subsequent court findings had rendered the issue moot.

FG’s counsel, Chief Adegboyega Awomolo, SAN, opposed the bail application, citing concerns about Kanu’s potential non-compliance with trial proceedings if released.
