Ahmed AU a prominent voice from the North and a self-described top loyalist of former Kaduna State Governor Nasir El-Rufai publicly endorsed Peter Obi’s fresh presidential ambition under the African Democratic Congress.
Ahmed AU, widely followed on X as @Ahmedumar___, made the declaration shortly after Obi completed his formal defection from the Labour Party to the ADC during a major event held at Nike Lake Resort Hotel in Enugu.
The move has been watched closely as part of a larger opposition realignment that now includes heavyweights such as Atiku Abubakar, Nasir El-Rufai himself, and Rotimi Amaechi.
In his widely shared post, which quickly amassed tens of thousands of views, Ahmed AU stated his position with unmistakable clarity:
“I am Ahmed AU from Northern Nigeria. Today, as Peter Obi joins ADC, I publicly welcome and support him to become the President of Nigeria.
I confidently promise 3M votes from the North. I will personally handle mass mobilization, youth engagement, and grassroots campaigns.”
The endorsement carries extra weight because of Ahmed AU’s deep ties to El-Rufai, a northern political titan and one of the driving forces behind the emerging ADC coalition.
For months the young mobilizer has consistently amplified Obi-related messages, sharing optimistic visions of northern backing and potential dream tickets that could unite different parts of the country.
Reactions poured in almost immediately across social media platforms.
Supporters from the South cheered the development as a potential breakthrough, noting that Obi had faced challenges building strong traction in northern states during the 2023 election cycle.
Others adopted a more cautious tone, questioning whether the ambitious 3-million-vote pledge could realistically translate into votes on election day and wondering how the final ADC ticket would balance northern and southern interests.

Meanwhile, the Labour Party responded sharply to Obi’s departure, describing his 2023 run as a misstep and claiming the party had finally been freed from his influence.
As the political landscape of 2027 begins to take shape, this bold northern voice on the last day of 2025 serves as an early signal of attempts to bridge Nigeria’s deep regional divides.

Whether the pledge becomes a foundation for genuine grassroots momentum or remains a powerful online declaration will become clearer in the months ahead.
For now, it stands as one of the most talked-about political moves closing out the year.
