Social critic Aisha Yesufu has mocked Nigerian businessman Tony Elumelu following his recent interview with the Financial Times, where he expressed concern about oil theft in the country.
Yesufu criticized Elumelu for his enthusiastic praise of Bola Tinubu, referring to him as the “last man standing” in a video from a visit to Elumelu’s residence. This praise was linked to Tinubu’s victory in the recent presidential elections.
Despite this, Elumelu later lamented the issue of oil theft in his interview, calling on the Nigerian government and security agencies to identify those responsible for stealing the country’s crude oil, particularly from vessels in territorial waters.
He also highlighted how this issue has led to the divestment of international oil companies from Nigeria.
In response, Yesufu pointed out that while Peter Obi, the Labour Party’s presidential candidate, focused heavily on oil theft during his campaign, Elumelu appeared indifferent to the issue at the time.
“Peter Obi @PeterObi spent most of his campaigning time talking about oil theft but Tony Elumelu was gleeful about the last man standing who never once talked about the oil theft.
“Anyway welcome to the club. Las las all of us will be advocates for good governance,” Yesufu posted on X.
