Less than 10 Weeks to Ondo Gubernatorial Election; Aiyedatiwa Orders Security to Use Live Ammunition, Teargas Against Student Executives on Campus

Less than 10 weeks before the Ondo gubernatorial election, Ondo State Governor Lucky Aiyedatiwa ordered security personnel to use live ammunition and teargas against student executives on the premises of Adekunle Ajasin University, Akungba-Akoko while he was in the premises.

The incident happened around the university main gate, when the governor went to Akungba-Akoko, the university town, for an empowerment programme at the instance of the honourable member representing Akoko Southwest/Akoko Southeast Federal Constituency at the House of Representatives, Adegboyega Adefarati, and students leaders were present at the event.

When the governor as well as his entourage did not recognise the students leaders, neither was he ready to listen to their concerns when attempts were made to reach out to him.

When the governor was about leaving, the students’ union executives tried to accost him but were parried with stiff resistance: Guns were shot and teargas fired in a bid to disperse them.

The Boladele Oyindamola (Mandela) who serves as the Student Union President was later called and given a barrage of slaps by one of the governor’s aides, while the rest of his executives were mercilessly assaulted with them sustaining different degree of injuries.

He said, we didn’t ask him for money, the road leading to our school is in terrible condition, and our main gate has been locked for the past five years with nothing done about it. The buses and other promises made have proven to be false. #Aiyedatiwa
