Akeredolu’s Body Returns Home for Burial

The remains of the late former Governor of Ondo State, Oluwarotimi Akeredolu, have touched down in Nigeria from Germany.

The moment unfolded on Friday, January 5, 2024, as the plane carrying his body landed at approximately 3:39 p.m. The late governor’s wife, Chief Betty Anyanwu-Akeredolu, along with his children and siblings, including Prof. Wole Akeredolu, the immediate younger brother, were present to receive him.

Notable dignitaries, including Lagos State Governor Mr. Babajide Sanwo-Olu and Ogun State Governor Prince Dapo Abiodun, participated in the reception. They expressed their condolences and solidarity with the grieving family.

The South-West Governors Forum, comprising leaders from Lagos, Oyo, Osun, Ogun, and Ekiti, conveyed their commitment to collaborate with Ondo State Governor Lucky Aiyedatiwa and the Akeredolu family to organize a fitting burial.

Governor Dapo Abiodun, representing the Forum, assured the public, “The late Governor Akeredolu would be sorely missed by all of his governor-colleagues; the void he left behind would be difficult to fill.”

The governors announced the formation of a joint committee to oversee the burial arrangements, emphasizing their shared determination to honor the late governor’s legacy. The Southwest region prepares to bid farewell to a distinguished leader, acknowledging the significant impact he made during his tenure.
