Senate President Godswill Akpabio has addressed the rumors surrounding his recent collapse at his birthday event. In a statement to the press on Friday, Akpabio clarified that the incident was a result of a combination of malaria and exhaustion.
Acoording to a video by AIT, Akpabio revealed that he had been diagnosed with malaria following the colloquium held in Abuja on December 7th. Downplaying the incident, he characterized it as a “show of humanity” and attributed it to fatigue compounded by the stress of the event.
“What eventually happened after the event was a show of humanity. I went home and I called my doctors, and I was assured that I have malaria, mingled with stress, which could also be described in another way as exhaustion. In fact, anybody could be exhausted. Please, drink water daily so that you don’t get exhausted.” he said.

Akpabio assured the public that despite the incident, the National Assembly remains operational and committed to its duties, including the timely passage of the national budget.
He confirmed that legislative activities are set to resume on December 20th, emphasizing the importance of committees completing their work to meet the budget deadline before the end of the year for the president’s approval.
“This is to say that the work goes on. I want to assure Nigerians that the National Assembly is intact, and we are still going on with our duty, our appropriation. We will resume on 20th December. But before then, the various committees must have finished their work to enable us to meet the target to pass the budget before the end of the year for the president to append his signature.” he said.
