Popular rights activist Aisha Yesufu has criticised Senate President Godswill Akpabio following his clash with Kogi Central Senator Natasha Akpoti.
Yesufu accused Akpabio, whom she claimed should be in jail, of harassing the only two outspoken female senators in the National Assembly.
Natasha and Akpabio have repeatedly clashed on the Senate floor. The conflict began when Natasha discovered that her seat had been reassigned upon the Senate’s resumption.
Refusing to accept the new arrangement, she challenged the decision, leading to a heated exchange in the chamber. The confrontation escalated last Thursday, with Natasha boldly telling Akpabio in a viral video, “I’m not afraid of you.”
Following the incident, Akpabio announced that Natasha would face disciplinary action over her reaction to the seat reassignment.
In response, an aggrieved Natasha filed a ₦100 million lawsuit against the Senate President, taking him to the Federal Capital Territory High Court for defamation.

Reacting, Yesufu posted on X: ”We have only four female senators. Two are almost nonexistent.
“The vocal two are being harassed left, right, and center by Senator Akpabio, who should have been in jail if Nigeria had an incorruptible judiciary.”
Akpabio has also previously clashed with another female senator.
In December 2024, FCT Senator Ireti Kingibe walked out of the Senate chamber after Akpabio refused to consider her motion.
Kingibe had earlier informed the Senate about her motion to investigate the ongoing demolitions in the nation’s capital, and it was agreed that the matter would be discussed the next day.
However, when her motion was not included in the order paper, she raised the issue with her colleagues, leading to tensions in the chamber.
