“I Cry Whenever I Hear Report of Killings,” Says Akpabio, Claims APC Cares About Nigerians

Senate President Godswill Akpabio has called on Nigerians to take ownership of the peace process, emphasizing that lasting stability in Plateau State and across the country cannot come from foreign intervention.

Speaking on Saturday at the Jos Polo Field during the formal reception of political defectors into the All Progressives Congress (APC) in the state, Akpabio urged citizens to support efforts to restore peace.

“We are calling on God the Almighty to help us at the centre to bring peace to Plateau. Anybody that will rule Plateau must be committed to peace. This is the only party that cares for you,” he said.

He also expressed deep concern over the ongoing violence in Plateau and other parts of Nigeria, saying, “I cry whenever I hear the killing of a human being, whether a child or an adult.”

Akpabio reassured residents that their concerns would be addressed, stressing that the scale of killings, displacement, and destruction could not be ignored.

He highlighted that the roots of the conflict date back to 2010, noting that many of the reports being cited internationally were prepared during that period.

“The whole thing started in 2010. Most of the reports you are hearing, that they are using internationally, were reports prepared in 2010. At that time, I was a governor, and I know how people were killed everywhere,” he added.

He concluded by urging the people of Plateau to embrace peace and work together with authorities, emphasizing that unity and cooperation are key to ending the cycle of violence in the state and ensuring progress for all Nigerians.
