Petrol Dealer Kills Wife, Commits Suicide in Akure

A tragic incident occurred in Akure, the capital of Ondo State, on Friday, when a petrol dealer, Sesan Adelabu, killed his wife, Bolu Adelabu, with a matchet and then took his own life by ingesting a poisonous substance.

The couple, who lived in Alagbaka GRA area of Akure, were found dead in their residence by a police officer of the Special Protection Unit from the A Division Station, who was alerted by the deceased’s son. The son had tried to reach his father several times on phone without success.

The police officer discovered the body of Adelabu, also known as Emirate, the name of his retail outlet, lying on the floor in the toilet, with an empty bottle of insecticide beside him. His wife’s body was on the bed, with multiple matchet wounds.

The police spokesperson, SP ‘Funmilayo Odunlami-Omisanya, confirmed the incident in a news release. She said the State Commissioner of Police, Abayomi Oladipo, has directed the Homicide Section of the State Criminal Investigation Department to take charge of the case.

She added that the police have cordoned off the scene and commenced investigation to unravel the motive behind the gruesome act. She appealed to the public to remain calm and cooperate with the police.
