Education advocate and CEO of Educare, Alex Onyia, has slammed the Nigerian government over the poor welfare of teachers and medical professionals, warning that no reform can succeed if those at the heart of education and healthcare struggle to survive.
In a viral post on X (formerly Twitter), Onyia wrote, “You can’t underpay the people who educate your children and heal your sick, then start policy PowerPoint shows.”
He argued that survival not service has become the real job for educators and medical professionals due to poor salaries, cautioning that Nigeria cannot rise above the value it places on teachers and doctors.

nyia said that policy reforms are meaningless if they do not address the welfare of these essential workers.
The education advocate emphasised that the issue goes beyond money, pointing to what a country truly respects.
“No nation rises above the value it places on its teachers and doctors. No education reform survives hunger. Pay them properly. Everything else is noise,” he wrote, urging the government to prioritise frontline workers in its policy agenda.
His post has sparked widespread debate online, drawing attention to the challenges faced by teachers and medical professionals across Nigeria.
Other citizens have also echoed call for better remuneration, warning that continued neglect could undermine reforms and the quality of essential public services
