Alex Otti Commissions 14 New Roads in Aba to Enhance Business Operations, Improve Urban Mobility

Abia State Governor, Alex Otti, has announced the completion and formal commissioning of 14 newly rehabilitated roads across Aba and its environs, describing the development as a critical step in the state’s ongoing urban renewal plan.

Posting on his official X account on Wednesday, the Labour Party governor said the roads form the first phase of a total of 55 projects lined up for either commissioning or groundbreaking in the coming weeks.

“Yesterday, we formally commissioned 14 newly rehabilitated roads across Aba and its environs, marking a significant milestone in our urban renewal and infrastructure development agenda for Abia State. This initiative represents the first phase of the 55 road projects scheduled for commissioning and groundbreaking in the coming weeks,” Otti stated.

The roads include Umuode Road, Bakassi Road, Isu Ihiteukwa Street, Asa Road, and the Enyimba Junction to Ariaria Gate axis—areas that had long been plagued by decades of infrastructural neglect.

According to the governor, the rehabilitated roads are “strategically designed to enhance business operations, improve urban mobility, and elevate the overall livability of Aba.”

Otti noted that the projects go far beyond surface beautification, pointing out that they serve as symbols of renewed economic prospects and governance credibility. “Beyond asphalt and concrete, the progress also signifies the revitalization of economic opportunities, the restoration of public confidence, and the reinforcement of our collective aspirations for a thriving city,” he said.

He also expressed gratitude to residents and business owners in the area for their patience and cooperation during the road construction process. “I extend my sincere appreciation to the business owners, landlords, and residents for their patience and unwavering support throughout the execution of these projects. Their cooperation has been instrumental in making the project a success,” Otti said.

Commending his cabinet members and state officials, he singled out the Abia State Ministry of Works and the Greater Aba Development Authority (GADA) under the leadership of Engr. Otumchere Oti and Arch. Uche Ukeje for their commitment to quality delivery.

He also urged residents to ensure the roads are maintained and not misused through illegal commercial activity or poor sanitation. “As we advance, I urge all residents to take ownership of these roads and ensure their proper maintenance. These projects belong to us all, and it is our collective responsibility to prevent damage from unregulated commercial activities, uphold environmental cleanliness, and safeguard the integrity of our urban spaces,” he wrote.

Otti rounded off the message by thanking Deputy Governor Ikechukwu Emetu, Speaker Emmanuel Emeruwa, and other senior government officials who joined him on the inspection tour.

“Aba is on a transformative path, and this is just the beginning! I extend my profound gratitude to my Deputy Governor, Engr. Ikechukwu Emetu, the Speaker of the Abia State House of Assembly, Rt. Hon. Emmanuel I. Emeruwa, and other senior government officials who accompanied me on this important assignment. Your dedication and support continue to drive our shared vision for a greater, progressive and prosperous Abia State.”
