Sokoto: Gov Aliyu Directs Resignation of Local Government Secretaries, Emphasizes Commitment to Rule of Law

In a recent development in Sokoto State, Governor Ahmed Aliyu has issued a directive for civil servants holding positions as Local Government Secretaries to resign from their posts, citing the political nature of their appointments.

The directive was given during a meeting with Local Government Sole Administrators and their Secretaries across the state.

Governor Aliyu clarified that, according to the law, Local Government Secretaries fall under the category of political office holders.

He emphasized the commitment to upholding the rule of law and expressed intolerance for any violation of legal provisions.

He stated, “It is now clear that you are occupying political offices, therefore, if you are a civil servant make sure you resign.

“We believe in the rule of law and will not accept any situation where people will flout the law,” he added.

The Governor equally instructed Local Government Sole Administrators to engage in regular security meetings with relevant stakeholders to address and curb banditry and other crimes within their respective localities.

“Securing our communities is not only the responsibility of governments but the responsibility of all,” he emphasized.

Aliyu called for heightened vigilance and encouraged the reporting of any suspicious activities to the appropriate authorities. Emphasizing the importance of effective surveillance and intelligence gathering in rural areas, he outlined these measures as crucial in the fight against insecurity in the state.

Assuring the public, Aliyu affirmed the readiness of his administration to combat banditry and other criminal activities.

He however expressed gratitude to the people of Sokoto State for their unwavering support and cooperation his administration.
