A Nigerian and former England women’s national team player, Eniola Aluko, has achieved a significant milestone in the world of football by becoming the first black woman to own a club in Italy.
The 37-year-old athlete has acquired a major stake in FC Como’s female team, marking a historic moment in the country’s football landscape.
Aluko shared the news of her ownership in a post on her X page, revealing her involvement in a $100 million ownership group named Mercury 13, which has secured a majority stake in the club.
FC Como Women, established in 2020, operates out of a 3,700-capacity stadium and currently competes in the top tier of Italian women’s football, Serie A.

Born in Lagos to Nigerian parents in 1987, Aluko’s journey in football has been marked by exceptional talent and determination. While she initially represented Nigeria, she later naturalized to England and proudly donned the jersey of the Three Lionesses.
