Tragic Ambush in Delta State Leaves Six Policemen Dead and Six Missing

The Nigeria Police Force confirms the loss of six officers during an investigation into the disappearance of three colleagues in Delta State. A statement by the Force’s Public Relations Officer, ACP Olumuyiwa Adejobi, reveals that armed assailants ambushed the officers during a mission in Ohoro Forest, Delta State. Six officers perished in the attack, while six others remain missing. Five suspects have been arrested in connection with the incident.

“The Nigeria Police Force is profoundly saddened by the devastating loss of six courageous officers in Delta State who exhibited exceptional valor in the face of adversity,” said ACP Olumuyiwa Adejobi.

The deceased officers are identified as Inspector Abe Olubunmi, Inspector Friday Irorere, Sergeant Kuden Elisha, Sergeant Akpan Aniette, Sergeant Ayere Paul, and Sergeant Ejemito Friday. The missing officers include Inspector Onoja Daniel, Inspector Onogho Felix, Inspector Emmanuel Okoroafor, Inspector Joel Hamidu, Sergeant Moses Eduvie, and Sergeant Cyril Okorie.

The Force pledges to posthumously honor the fallen officers for their service and sacrifice at an upcoming awards ceremony. Additionally, it assures support for the families of the deceased officers.

“The bodies of six of the slain officers have been recovered after a fierce search conducted by a combined team of police officers and other security outfits,” Adejobi stated.

Efforts are underway to locate the missing officers, with their families duly contacted. The Inspector General of Police, IGP Kayode Adeolu Egbetokun, Ph.D., NPM, has ordered expedited processing and payment of all entitlements due to the families of the fallen officers.

Immediate measures have been initiated to ensure justice is served swiftly. The Inspector General of Police has mandated the deployment of resources and personnel to apprehend the perpetrators. Five suspects have been arrested, and investigations are ongoing.

The Nigeria Police Force condemns attacks on law enforcement personnel and urges the public to provide any information that could aid in apprehending the remaining perpetrators.

In a related incident, 17 soldiers of the Nigerian Army, serving with the 181 Amphibious Battalion, were killed in Delta State while on a peacekeeping mission to quell community clashes in Bomadi Local Government.
