Extend Amnesty Granted to Your Kinsmen Igboho, Sowore to Nnamdi Kanu — Igbo Group Urges Tinubu

The Concerned Igbo Citizens Council (CICC) has appealed to Chief Bola Ahmed Tinubu to broaden the scope of amnesty granted to individuals involved in pro-secessionist activities by including Nnamdi Kanu, leader of the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB).

This call comes following the recent release of Sunday Igboho and Omoyele Sowore, two prominent figures in the agitation for self-determination in the Yoruba and Odua regions.

In a statement released by its interim National Coordinator, Comrade Ukachukwu Obioha, and interim National Secretary, Mazi James Okorie, the group emphasized the need for equitable treatment of all individuals detained for similar activities across ethnic lines.

The CICC commended the unconditional release of Igboho and Sowore but stressed the importance of extending the same gesture to Kanu and other Nigerians currently held for advocating self-determination.

Furthermore, they called upon relevant authorities, including the Department of State Services, the Police, and the National Human Rights Commission, to investigate cases of violence and unlawful incarceration related to self-determination agitations.

The statement read, “It has become most expedient and imperative to call on Bola Tinubu to extend the amnesty he granted to two of his kinsmen, Sunday Igboho and Omoyele Sowore, to other Yoruba youths held for supporting the agitations of the duo.

“It would amount to criminal injustice to continue to detain the supporters and fans of Igboho and Sowore since the principal actors have been absolved of any wrongdoing per se.

“We demand also for the unconditional release, without any further delay, of Mazi Kanu and all Igbo and Eastern Nigerian youths currently detained for belonging to or supporting IPOB.”
