Social commentator and political analyst, Nefertiti, has criticised the appointment of Prof. Joash Amupitan as the new chairman of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), describing it as another move by Bola Tinubu to tighten his grip on power.
In a post shared on X, Nefertiti expressed disbelief that some Nigerians expected a fair electoral process under an administration she described as “drunk on power.”

“Some of you actually thought that a man drunk on power woke up one morning and gave you an INEC chairman that will miraculously conduct a credible election that could oust him? Prof. Amupitan will conduct a far worse election.”

Nefertiti urged Nigerians to “bookmark” her statement as a warning, stressing that the newly appointed INEC boss would likely preside over an election even more compromised than the 2023 polls.
Her comment has since stirred reactions online, with many Nigerians echoing similar fears about the credibility of future elections under Tinubu’s government.
@Danature5k wrote, “Nigerians have short memories and are easily deceived. There’s no way the APC would appoint you as INEC chairman and not expect you to serve their interests; it’s simply impossible.”
Tinubu appointed Prof. Joash Amupitan as the new INEC chairman on October 9, 2025.
