Nigerian medical doctor based in the United Kingdom, Dr Olufunmilayo Ogunsanya, known as OurFavOnlineDoc, has said that the recently held Anambra governorship election has proven that the Obidient vote is strictly for the Labour Party’s Peter Obi and cannot be transferred to any other candidate.
Dr Ogunsanya, known on X (formerly Twitter) as @OurFavOnlineDoc, made the statement on Sunday while reacting to the outcome of the poll, where Obi’s preferred candidate, the Labour Party’s George Moghalu, finished third despite Obi’s public endorsement.
“Personally, to me; I think the Anambra elections done yesterday have proven one thing this year: the ‘Obidient’ vote is NOT transferable. EVEN IF Peter himself campaigns for the person,” he wrote.
He said the result was proof that the trust and loyalty of the Obidient movement are tied directly to Peter Obi’s personality and integrity, not to the political party.

“It looks like to me that the ‘Obidient’ vote is strictly for Peter Obi. At least that much is clear,” he added.
Dr Ogunsanya expressed concern that if by 2027 Obi chooses not to contest or endorses another candidate, the support might not shift automatically to that person.
“Now the implication of this is that if, by 2027, Peter Obi chooses not to run for president or he endorses someone else, I’m NOT certain the ‘Obidient’ vote will simply go to that person,” he said.
He also observed that over the last two years, many politicians have climbed on the Obidient movement to gain political power, only to betray the trust of the people by decamping to other parties afterwards.
“Many Obidients have seen these dirty, rusty politicians climb on the Obidient wave to enter power, only to then decamp to another party afterwards. So it seems nobody wants to fall into that trap anymore—and it is only Obi that the Obidients personally trust,” he stated.
According to him, the observation is not to compel any political party to adopt Obi but a reflection of the movement’s deep connection to his personal values.
“I’m not saying any of this to blackmail any party into adopting Obi. I’m actually saying this from a place of concern and worry. It looks more and more clear that for mass majority of people, it is Obi or nothing,” Dr Ogunsanya said.
The post has since generated wide engagement on social media, with many Nigerians agreeing that the Obidient movement’s strength lies in Peter Obi’s credibility and character.
A user, @PrisciliaAmadi, wrote, “The OBIdient vote could have been transferable; however, you have to do enough to earn it. Peter Obi works hard, too hard to be who he is; that’s why OBIdients trust him.”
Another user, @dacryptofarmerx, said, “Obidient movement is kinda tied to Obi’s charisma/personal qualities; it will be hard to transfer that influence to someone else who doesn’t have similar traits.”
Many commentators argued that the movement represents a growing political consciousness among Nigerians who see Obi as a symbol of integrity in a corrupt political system under Bola Tinubu’s government.
Several observers noted that the Anambra poll outcome reflects a broader sentiment that political loyalty in Nigeria is now shifting from party structures to individuals with proven records of honesty and accountability.
For many supporters, Peter Obi remains not just a politician but the face of a people-driven movement seeking genuine change in a country struggling under poor leadership and economic hardship.
