Anambra Tops JAMB Exam Fraud List Amid Massive Withholding of Results

The 2025 Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination (UTME) has been hit by another wave of scandal as the Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB) disclosed that Anambra State recorded the highest number of suspects linked to examination fraud in the country.

Out of 80 individuals currently being interrogated nationwide for alleged involvement in exam malpractice, 14 suspects are from Anambra, placing the state at the heart of the unfolding controversy.

JAMB, in a press briefing on Friday, also confirmed that 39,834 results have been withheld over what it described as irregularities linked to cheating and impersonation. More than 1.9 million candidates had participated in the 2025 UTME exercise.

JAMB Registrar, Prof. Ishaq Oloyede, while addressing the media, said: “467 underage candidates met the prescribed minimum score, 50 were engaged in cheating scandal.”

The release of this year’s UTME results comes amid ongoing criticism of JAMB’s capacity to curb recurring fraud despite deploying surveillance and monitoring technologies year after year.

The exam body has not yet disclosed if and when the withheld results will be released or whether some will be outrightly cancelled. A full report from the board is expected as the press briefing continues.
