Despite Nigeria being revered as the giant of Africa, its minimum wage remaining below $25 monthly continues to send a different signal, as Angola’s President, Joao Lourenco, has implemented a significant increase in the country’s minimum wage, raising it from $84 to $120 monthly.
This move underscores the government’s commitment to improving the standard of living for its citizens.
In addition to the minimum wage hike, Lourenco’s administration has also boosted the monthly salary for Senior Military Personnel and Medical Staff Members to $2,150, reflecting efforts to address income disparities and ensure fair compensation across sectors.
This disparity between Angola and Nigeria highlights the ongoing challenges facing the Nigerian government in addressing economic inequalities and providing adequate support for its workforce.
