Confirming the tragedy, the Public Relations Officer of the Taraba State Police Command, Abdullahi Usman, disclosed that the distressing incident occurred on Friday within the confines of the university’s mosque.
He said: “On November 10, 2023, at about 9:15 am, information was received from the Divisional Police Officer (DPO) in Sunkani, the administrative headquarters of Ardo-Kola, that one Abdulrashid Ibrahim, a student of the university, was stabbed by a suspect, Abdullahi Babangida Ahmed.”
According to the police report, the victim was identified as a student in the Faculty of Health Science, specifically in the Department of Medical Laboratory at the university.
It was reported that he encountered the suspect while the suspect was sleeping inside the university mosque.
The victim approached the suspect to inquire about the purpose of the suspect’s presence within the mosque.
An argument erupted between the two individuals, resulting in the suspect using a knife to stab the student in the neck.
Usman verified that the injured student was swiftly transported to the Federal Medical Centre (FMC) in Jalingo before the police arrived at the scene.
“The suspect was arrested, and the commissioner of police has ordered a clinical investigation into the case to unravel the motives behind his presence on the university premises,” the PPRO stated.
