In the context of a major boxing event, British professional boxer Anthony Joshua has hinted on a possible matchup with American heavyweight Deontay Wilder. The event, which might happen as early as March or April of next year, will also include Oleksandr Usyk vs. Tyson Fury in an undisputed heavyweight bout.
Joshua said during the US Grand Prix in Austin, Texas, after acquiring a stake in the Alpine Formula One team: “They want to put Joshua vs. Wilder and Usyk vs. Fury on the same night.”
The bouts are scheduled to take place on the same night, resulting in a boxing “mega-card.” This prestigious event is anticipated to take place in Saudi Arabia.
After defeating Finnish boxer Robert Helenius in the seventh round at London’s O2 Arena in August, Joshua just got back on track for a future matchup with former WBC beltholder Wilder. Joshua also disclosed that his next fight will take place in London in December, possibly at the O2 or Wembley Arena.
Joshua acknowledged his doubts about the Wilder issue, pointing out that some boxers are holding out for the undisputed showdown in order to maximise their earnings. In spite of this, he stressed the need to be active and select the best opponent for his fight in December.
This announcement follows the September agreement to match Anthony Joshua against Deontay Wilder. Contracts, however, have not yet been signed, and Joshua might leave if they are not signed shortly.
