APC Accuses SDP of Plotting to Burn INEC Office in Kogi

The All Progressives Congress (APC) Governorship Campaign Council in Kogi has accused the Social Democratic Party (SDP) of planning to set the Independent National Electoral Commission’s (INEC) office in Lokoja on fire.

The council urged the public to hold the SDP accountable for any damage or disruption to the electoral process in the state.

The council’s spokesman, Kingsley Fanwo, made this allegation in a statement released in Lokoja on Sunday night.

He said the SDP was trying to cover up its intention to destroy the INEC office by raising a false alarm that some “mandate bandits” were plotting to do so.

The SDP had earlier issued a statement through its MuriSam Campaign Council spokesman, Isaiah Ijele, claiming that it had received information from reliable sources that some people were planning to burn down the INEC office in Kogi.

The SDP called on the security agencies to beef up security around the INEC office to prevent any attack.

However, the APC campaign council dismissed the SDP’s claim as a lie and a diversionary tactic.

The council said the SDP had no evidence to back up its allegations about the credibility of the Kogi State Governorship Poll, which it said was the best in the state’s democratic history.

The council also said the SDP was resorting to propaganda and attacks on INEC and other stakeholders because it had failed to impress the voters with its performance and manifesto.

The council challenged the SDP and its candidate to show their political pedigree and compete with the APC, which it said was firmly rooted in the state.
