APC Chairman in Jigawa Suspended Over Rape Allegation

The All Progressives Congress (APC) in Jigawa State has suspended its chairman in Roni Local Government Area, Saleh Idris, over allegations of rape. The suspension was confirmed in a statement signed by the state chairman, Aminu Sani Gumel.

Saleh Idris was arrested by the Nigerian Security and Civil Defense Corps on October 4. The arrest followed a complaint lodged by the brother of the alleged victim, a 14-year-old housemaid.

A laboratory test confirmed that the minor was pregnant, with the pregnancy estimated to be approximately four months and two weeks old. The party has decided to suspend Idris pending the outcome of further investigations.

The statement from APC stated, “Following the allegation of rape and impregnation of minor and the outcome of the preliminary investigation of the state chapter, the party has come up with the following resolutions:

“That your act contravened Section 21.2 (viii) and (x) of the

APC 2022 Constitution as amended, and that there is a need for further investigations.

“That indicates the need for further investigation into the matter. Consequently, you are hereby suspended from the chairmanship of the party of Roni Local Government Area, spending the final report of the investigation.”
